2018 Heritage and History Book Award

"Towards an Encyclopedia of Local Knowledge" by Pam Hall has been selected for the 2018 Heritage and History Book Award. This ambitious publication chronicles the province’s unique heritage through the knowledge of tradition-bearers and local-residents, and presents it in a highly visual and artistic format. 

2018 Dr. Paul O'Neill Scholarship

4th year Political Science student Jacob Elyk has been named the 2018 recipient of the Dr. Paul O'Neill Scholarship. Awarded biannually, the $1000 scholarship recognizes an exempliary Bachelor of Arts student at Memorial University who persues education in some aspect of Newfoundland studies. 

23rd Manning Awards for Excellence

Seven Manning Awards for Excellence were presented for outstanding projects that present and engage the public in the province's heritage. The award ceremony was held March 7th, 2018 at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, and was followed by a reception at Government House.

Port au Choix Gourmet Festival

Taking place August 18th, 19th & 20th, the Port au Choix Gourmet Festival is a joint project of the Historic Sites Association and Parks Canada which will celebrate the French history of Port au Choix and allow participants to experience authentic Basque cuisine.

Signal Hill First World War Encampment

August 12th to 14th, 2016. Parks Canada and the HSA are presenting three days of special interactive activities at Signal Hill. Explore the living history of the First World War through hands on activities, exciting demonstrations and special performances. 

2016 Ambassador Award Receipents

The 100th Anniversary of Beaumont Hamel will see 19 Heritage Fair students traveling to Europe to pay tribute to the First World War soldiers of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. Students will be traveling June 27th to July 4th, 2016.
