HSA Presents Award for Interpretation of Provincial History

ST. JOHN’S, NL (June 28, 2004) -- The Historic Sites Association presented a special award this weekend during the 5th Annual Awards for Excellence in Craft, held by the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. Six awards were presented at Craft Council Gallery, including the Award for Interpretation of Provincial History. This award, sponsored by the Historic Sites Association, was presented to Tim Rast for using his craft to present the history and heritage of the province.
Rast is an accomplished flintknapper with eight years experience in making and demonstrating stone tools. An archaeologist and craft producer, Rast handcrafts museum quality artifact reproductions and archaeology-themed jewellery through his business “Elfshot.” His unique products, such as arrow tip pendants and earrings, are available at Heritage Shops throughout the province.
Carol Ann Tobin, retail manager of the Heritage Shops of Newfoundland and Labrador presented the award. Tobin commented, “We are delighted to present this award to someone as deserving as Tim. His work is second to none and teaches people about the history of our province. Elfshot is an extremely popular item at our gift shops.” This is the first year this award has been sponsored by the HSA.
