This series of plays brings stories to life about celebrated Arctic explorer, Captain Bob Bartlett. Performed by members of The Baccalieu Players, each of the four 20-minute theatrical presentations take place once a week throughout the months of July and August.
WEDNESDAYS: “Emma Remembers” – Join Captain Bob Bartlett’s sister in this single-character vignette as she reminisces about life in Brigus and her brother’s famous voyages, during a time when Hawthorne Cottage was the centre of activity in Brigus.
THURSDAYS: “27 Hands to Greenland!” – Fred Littleton recounts his experiences with Captain Bartlett on the Effie M. Morrissey. Littleton was only 15 years old when he became a deck hand for the “old man’s” 1940 West Greenland Expedition. /P>
FRIDAYS: “All In a Day’s Work.” The newest addition to Live! On the Lawn is the 4th play of the series, which tells the story of Florrie Morgan, the Hawthorne Cottage maid. Listen to the stories of daily life at the cottage, told through the eyes of a young local woman. Enjoy the antics of two of Captain Bob’s relatives as they keep Florrie on her toes!
SATURDAYS “The Karluk Disaster” – As told by Ernest Chafe, a surviving crew member of the ill-fated Karluk and the Canadian Arctic Expedition of 1914. Chafe recalls Bartlett’s heroism during “the greatest Arctic disaster since the Franklin Expedition.”
Performances take place in Hawthorne Gardens. Rain venue: upstairs in the Cottage Green Room.
