Thrummed Mittens:
Originated in Newfoundland and Labrador hundreds of years ago and were a favorite among fishermen. Twisted pieces of pure sheep's wool are knitted into the interior of the mitten, creating a fleecy, warm lining.

With wear and use, the fleecy wool lining inside the mitten felts itself to form an insulating layer. When these mittens get wet they are warmer on the hands than even regular woolen mittens. The natural lanolin in the raw wool acts as a moisturizer for dry, chapped hands. Thrummed mittens are always a practical during the winter and have become a favorite accessory for skiers, hikers, snowmobilers and other winter adventurers.
