The Heritage Shop located on the first floor of Cabot Tower opened on April 2nd. Current Spring hours are 10:00am to 5:30pm daily. Visitors can shop with a view and browse the finest selection of local gifts, souvenirs, collectibles, art, crafts, books and more.
The 309 Water Street Heritage Shop is located east of Phase 1 upgrades, slated in begin April, and will not be within the 2018 construction zone. The City of St. John's has committed to maintaining a minimum of one lane of traffic on Water Street at all times, and pedestrian access will not be restricted

"Towards an Encyclopedia of Local Knowledge" by Pam Hall has been selected for the 2018 Heritage and History Book Award. This ambitious publication chronicles the province’s unique heritage through the knowledge of tradition-bearers and local-residents, and presents it in a highly visual and artistic format.
4th year Political Science student Jacob Elyk has been named the 2018 recipient of the Dr. Paul O'Neill Scholarship. Awarded biannually, the $1000 scholarship recognizes an exempliary Bachelor of Arts student at Memorial University who persues education in some aspect of Newfoundland studies.
Seven Manning Awards for Excellence were presented for outstanding projects that present and engage the public in the province's heritage. The award ceremony was held March 7th, 2018 at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, and was followed by a reception at Government House.

The HSA's Heritage and History Book Award recognizes outstanding works of non-fiction that enrich the knowledge of the general public of the heritage and history of our province. The year's shortlisted works present an eclectic range of topics.
The Water Street Gallery is continuing our Artist-in-Residence Program in 2018. The first artist of the year is Leona Ottenheimer who will be working away in the gallery Wednesday through Sunday afternoons from January 3rd to January 28th.

Entries are now open for our annual Design and Story Contest. Open to NL Students in Grades 4 to Level III, this year's theme is “Lessons from Our Past, Shaping Our Future". There will be two winners per region, with one overall provincial winner having their design featured on the official 2018 Heritage Fair t-shirt.
Congratulations to Katherine Walters of The Purple Raven Boutique, this year's receipient of the Craft Award for Interpretation of Provincial History. Katherine was recognized for her wire knit jewellery which interprets various aspects of the province's traditions, history and culture.
