CALL FOR NOMINATIONS - 2018 Award for Interpretation of Provincial History

Call for Nominations!

The Award for Interpretation of Provincial History was initiated in 2004 at the request of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador. The HSA approached the Craft Council with the request that this award be included in the list of Craft Council's Awards for Excellence, and agreed that the Historic Sites Association would sponsor it.

Criteria for this award were developed by the Craft Council's Awards Committee and approved by the Historic Sites Association, as follows:

The Award for Interpretation of Provincial History is given to a crafts-person who uses their skills to interpret and present the history and heritage of the province. Techniques or materials used may be either traditional or contemporary. Primary importance will be attached to how the crafts-person interprets the province's history. Sponsor: Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

Please forward your nomination to Rowena (rhouse@craftcouncil.nl.ca) by Monday November 5th, at 5 PM.

Please include the person/organization name, contact information, and a brief description on why the nominee is a good fit for this award. The award will be selected in partnership with the Historic Sites Association and the Awards Committee, and given out at the Christmas Craft Fair opening remarks starting at 6 PM on November 7th. Self-nomination is acceptable.

 

Applications must include the following:

  • Nominee Information: Name, address, phone, email

  • Nominator Information: same as above if different from Nominee.

  • Statement to describe the reasons for the nomination

  • Short Biography or resume of the nominee

  • Product descriptions

  • The aspect of provincial history that is represented in their craft

It is recommended that at least several of the following be included:

  • Images

  • Catalogs, brochures

  • Newspaper articles or reviews

  • Project Reports

  • Support letters 

To be considered eligible for this award, the nominee must:

  • Have given express consent to be nominated

  • Be a resident of Newfoundland & Labrador
